UPCM Admin Staff at Villa Escudero
The UPCM administrative staff held Part 2 of their yearly Staff Development Program at Villa Escudero at Tiaong, Quezon last May 17 and 18, 2018. Dr. Sally Vios, the College Secretary joined the activity. Here is what Ms Denise Silva (RIDO Admin Staff) wrote about the event.
A Summer Break the Filipino Heritage Way
A walk in the sun, it all begun
Blessed be the work of your hands
Enter another day with a refreshed mind
And be ready to start anew for the daily grind
It was an unusual yet exciting day for the employees and staff of the UP College of Medicine as they had a relaxing stay at the Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort last May 17-18, 2018 for the part two of their annual staff teambuilding. About 100 UPCM staff gathered to experience the country’s cultural heritage amidst today’s modern and digital age at the renowned resort in Quezon Province – just about three-hour travel from Manila.
Vast hectares of greens and fresh air welcomed guests upon arrival at the Villa Escudero. Who would have guessed that UPCM employees were seemingly transported to early country life of Filipinos when they hopped on for a carabao cart ride? To add, it was a different kind of feel when they were crooned by resort’s staff with Filipino folk songs while slowly cruising toward the lunch venue.
Hearty meal was enjoyed in one of Villa Escudero’s trademarks – the Labasin Waterfalls. Besides being blessed with warm weather during lunchtime, shallow running water in everyone’s feet while eating provided a calming effect to the senses.
In the afternoon, UPCM staff got several options. They strolled in the open area outside their rooms, took a dip in the nearby pools, paddled in the bamboo raft maybe or simply relaxed in their porches. Of course, everyone took advantage of the selfie- or groufie-worthy background of Villa Escudero.
Dinner in dim light gave a sweet yet tranquil ambiance before the announcement of winners of the fiesta-themed group presentations initially held last May 10. “This year’s teambuilding was unlike previous ones. We’re not pressured with the practices where everybody was rattling to master the dance beat,” said one staff.
Chill and rewind – these words may describe what UPCM staff experienced after their summer break. It’s worth the keep before diving in into next workday loads.
